This Montipora sp. was obtained from Norman/Mr.Ugly, who resides the S.F.Bay Area during Frank's road trip in January 2006. Norman originally obtained this beautiful Montipora from Steve Trieu at New Alameda Aquatics (www.newalameda.com). A very fun monti that has intense red polyps and a base color that is easily variable from purple to blue to icy blue-white depending on lighting intensity, hence the name, Chameleon Fire! Growth rate has been slow to moderate. The pictured colony you see is after about a year after acquisition. A nice smooth plating/encrusting growth. A stunning coral which require higher lighting intensity. This Limited Edition is being grown by The Coral Oasis who is distributing and growing fragments of this coral from the colony we acquired from Norman in 2006. Frank Burr is propagating this coral in a SPS/LPS propagation system at The Coral Oasis grow out and distribution facility. The coral is currently positioned at about 16 inches between a 250w and a 400w 20,000K XM Metal Halide (6" water depth). Water current is moderate to strong. Starting in March 2007, The Coral Oasis will distribute 1 farmed fragment of this spectacular coral monthly. Price is currently $100 per small sized fragment. Please note - This Limited Edition coral has been selected for First Edition Auctioning through Tropical Reef Oasis. The very first fragment of this coral produced and grown within the The Coral Oasis facility will be auctioned beginning March 2007 to the highest bidder. Limited Edition corals are obtained thru trades with hobbyists all over the U.S. Many of the corals listed were found during Frank Burr's Coral Road Trips during 2005~2006 and continuing in 2007. After this First Edition Auction the coral becomes a normal Limited Edition each month where The Coral Oasis earns each months reservation income by growing the captive fragment. The Coral Oasis propagation facility is closed to the public and available by appointment only.
