Limited Edition - Shu Tin's Scarlet O'Hara

Echinophyllia sp.

ShuTin's Scarlet O'Hara Echino - TCO Mother colony

This Echinophyllia sp. colony was obtained from Shu Tin in Monterey Bay, California. Shu Tin has been collecting rare and unusual Chalices and Desert plate type corals for several years and has a knack for obtaining the unusual and spectacular! The body coloration varies from a burnt orange to darker red with pink striations and edges. Neon pink highlights make this an eye catcher in any reef system. This coral has a thick plating growth. This Limited Edition is being grown by The Coral Oasis who is distributing and growing fragments of this coral from a starter colony we acquired from Shu Tin in December of 2005. Frank Burr is propagating this coral in a SPS propagation tower system at The Coral Oasis growout and distribution facility. The coral is positioned at about 14 inches from a 175watt 14,000K Hamilton Metal Halide. Under our 14k Hamiltons, this coral is developing more of a red/orange body coloration with pink highlights versus a pinker look under 400w 20k in Shu Tin's system. Water current is slow to moderate. Starting in April 2006 The Coral Oasis is allowed to distribute 1 farmed fragment of this wonderful coral per month. Price is currently $70 per small sized fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation schedule can be found below.

Mother colony - close up

Please note - This Limited Edition coral has been selected for First Edition Auctioning through Tropical Reef Oasis. The very first fragment of this coral produced and grown within the The Coral Oasis facility will be auctioned beginning April 29, 2006 to the highest bidder. Limited Edition corals are obtained thru trades with hobbyists all over the U.S. Many of the corals listed were found during Frank Burr's Coral Road Trips during 2006 and continuing in 2007. After this First Edition Auction the coral becomes a normal Limited Edition each month where The Coral Oasis earns each months reservation income by growing the captive fragment. The Coral Oasis propagation facility is closed to the public and available by appointment only.
